Archeological Dig

Last week a group of Friends were shown around the Bristol University archeological dig site by Mark Horton.

Current excavations are focusing on two areas.  The first area is near the High Street towards the private drive to the Castle;  here was the site of a public house, and we were shown several artefacts that the dig team have found, including a clay pipe, belt fastening and kitchen knife.  The second area is higher up the paddock, towards the church, where stonework has been found.  It is not yet certain when the structure dates from, though it is likely to be during the Dark Ages.

Mark Horton indicated that the team were likely to be returning to the site for several years to come, so we look forward to seeing what they have unearthed next year!
