The Kitchen Gardens

Berkeley Castle’s historic 18th-century Walled Kitchen Garden is undergoing a careful and sympathetic restoration, bringing it back to life in a way that reflects its traditional roots. The garden is designed in a classic quadrangle layout, which was typical of walled kitchen gardens from this period. Traditional planting schemes are being reintroduced, including fragrant herbs such as lavender and rosemary, as well as a variety of fruit trees, including the addition of peach trees against the warm, sunny walls.

As part of the transformation, the garden now includes the new Kitchen Garden Restaurant and Visitor Centre, where guests can relax and enjoy seasonal dishes inspired by the produce grown within the garden itself. The space offers visitors a tranquil and immersive experience, blending the history of this once-essential garden with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
