We’ve all been pleased to see more of the sunshine in recent weeks, even if the warmer days have been interspersed with chillier, wetter ones.

And if you’re thinking of planning a spring wedding, you could do worse than give this time of year some serious consideration. While Britain’s peak marriage season is typically considered to fall between May and October, with June, July and August being especially busy months, it’s not the only period when you can tie the knot.

After all, it’s a time of renewal and fresh life – what could be more appropriate when setting out on your marriage?

Here are some other key reasons it may well be worth thinking about a springtime wedding.

The weather

To state the obvious, it’s warmer without being too hot. (Remember last summer’s intense heatwaves? They could happen again.) It’s true that conditions can be variable, but you’re unlikely to be shivering in light clothes or sweltering so much your make-up runs.

And if your spring wedding venue has some al fresco areas, you should be able to take at least some of your celebrations outside, or even actually get hitched under the sky if the place’s license allows. (If not, you can say your vows inside but still feel a bit of sun on your back afterwards as you enjoy a glass of something.)

Spring wedding venues in bloom

The longer hours of daylight and sunshine breathe fresh life into flowers, trees and plants, so that gardens and grounds are at their best, and full of charm and vibrant colours. Clearly, this can make for some truly lovely photographs and create glorious backdrops for your images.

Better availability all round

It’s obviously deeply frustrating for wedding guests as well as the couple when people can’t be there on the day to help them celebrate. And summer may be peak wedding season, but it’s also popular for holidays. Having a spring wedding will make it more likely that you can get hitched in the presence of all the loved ones who you want to be there.

What’s more, both your spring wedding venue and all your suppliers, from florists and cake makers to caterers and photographers, are likelier to be able to accommodate your chosen date. High summer days get snapped up for marriages far more quickly, so there will be less demand if you opt for a ceremony earlier in the year.

Spring wedding flowers

Clearly, these days, as with food, you can buy pretty much any flowers you want when you want. But a good florist will work with the seasons and aim to use blooms which are locally grown. This gives you both better value for money and more sustainable options.

From bluebells and daffodils to forget-me-nots, carnations, freesia, clematis and hyacinth, you will have so much choice at this time of year.

A spring wedding colour palette

Popular shades for weddings between March and May include pastels such as lavender and mint, blush or sky blue. Brighter hues including coral peach may also work very well. Equally, you could also go for earthy tones like sage green or dusty rose. Once again, there are numerous choices.
