The Charitable Trust
The Berkeley Castle Charitable Trust was established in 1997 and opens the Castle to the public, education groups and other interested groups from April until October.
The Need for Support
The Charitable Trust needs your help in the preservation, conservation and restoration of this historically important building and its unique gardens.
£5.5million is required to fund the most essential repairs.
The Roof
The roofscape with its magnificent chimneys and sweeping lead and copper cladding. It will cost £920,000 to ensure that the building and its contents are sealed from the damaging elements.
The External Walls
The external walls, mainly constructed of limestone, soft tufa and sandstone have survived remarkably well, given that some were built almost 900 years ago, but £1.5million is required to repair weathered areas and restore key features such as important Norman carvings.
Internally
Internally, £600,000 is needed to repair and restore important areas including the unique painted 14th century Morning Room ceiling.
Outdated and inefficient services need £2.4million spent on them to ensure that the building meets current standards.
Work is Already Underway
Thanks to Grant-making Trusts, who have already made generous contributions, planning has begun for work aiming to restore the Norman Archway and other Category A works which are most urgently required.
Your involvement matters, and will make a difference. If you would like a chance to play a role in the conservation of one of the 20 most important houses in the country you can donate with your credit card by telephoning
